You can only be as good in your training as in your ability to recover. Rest and recovery are important components of an athlete’s training. Athletes prepare their bodies for the next training session and/or competition immediately after the last. Several therapies can be tailored to an individual athlete’s needs and are available here at TPS Massage & Kinetic Freedom

Why Recovery is So Important

Athletes need to allow their muscles to heal before they train again. If an athlete does not allow for proper recovery, their risk of injury increases. This causes stress and is harder for both their physical and mental health. Specific treatments for recovery cause muscles to relax and remove the lactic acid that has built up in the muscles. This helps to relieve sore and painful muscles. These treatments help the athlete enjoy their day and create an environment for them to get good sleep to further help their recovery. They will be more relaxed having taken time to recover so they won’t overdo it either physically or mentally.

Examples of the best techniques available for athletic recovery…

Massage Therapy

Massages improve the flow of blood relieving sore, stiff muscles and making them more flexible. It also helps prevent injury and relieves the stress of a long day.

Cupping

This is when a professional uses cups to suction the athlete’s skin. This lifts the skin away from the muscles and removes toxins and thus speeds up recovery.

Marc Pro Therapy

This is also used by a professional. Electrodes are attached to the muscles and the machine uses Dynamic Decaying Wavelengths. These wavelengths reduce swelling, soreness, and encourage recovery. This also clears waste and lactic acid.

Graston Therapy

This technique uses small tools that put pressure over parts of the body. This relieves pain and stimulates the production of collagen. Collagen helps the healing process with tissue damage.

Norma Tec Therapy

These devices push parts of the body resulting in increased blood flow in the muscles. The result is lactic acid being flushed out, reduced inflammation, and improved flexibility. All of this results in a faster recovery.

Cryotherapy

This is similar but more intensive than using a cold pack on an injury. The athlete stands in a chamber and their body is covered with cold air. The body will release endorphins as well as slow down the metabolism of the cells which results in more time for recovery.

TPS Recovery Massages

Recovery massages are designed to reduce downtime post-workout and performance, while also decreasing fatigue, preventing injury, and reducing delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). The pressure used may vary between lighter for drainage and deeper to release muscle tension.
